We bought other shoes from other brands at the same time as this pair and the Keds are definitely narrower than the others. We purchased the M width first from another retailer. At first glance, they already looked narrow, without the expected widening at the toe box. We could get them on our child's feet with a little push and the resulting fit was snug. However, we were not comfortable with the extra effort required to get them on (relative to other pairs of shoes). We had never bought W (wide) width shoes for our child in the past but we were glad we went ahead and got the W width for these particular shoes.
